The mightiest heroes in the entire galaxy deserve a break once in a while. Even the villains must go to the beach and take a couple of days off. Vacations are also in order in a galaxy far, far away this summer.
Following the epic announcements at LEGO CON 2022, Lucasfilm dropped a full trailer for a brand-new animated movie entitled LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation, coming to Disney+ on August 5. According to StarWars.com, “Finn becomes separated from his friends on the Halcyon starcruiser and encounters the Force ghosts of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Leia Organa, and Anakin Skywalker, who all tell tales of summer fun gone wrong. Finn will learn about what vacations can mean, and it’ll be through the lens of characters ranging from Ben Solo to Darth Vader.”
Of course, this is a 100% fan service movie, but the gags and references are so on point that the story itself feels worth our time. For the few minutes of the trailer, we already got a glimpse of particular mentions, such as R2D2 and C3PO wearing robes with the Chandrila Star Line logo. From the creative side, the movie is a well-executed opportunity to tell stories that just aren’t really possible in the live-action saga. I mean, Vader is wearing a hat with tropical Porgs on it, while using a tank top! And BB-8 wearing a cucumber slice over his singular lens, how cute is that? Well, I can only say… this is LEGO Star Wars in a nutshell.
And as this wasn’t enough, we are getting an official movie song, by Weird Al Yankovic. Scarif Beach Party, will be the official theme, created by Weird Al, who also voices Vic Vankoh in LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation.
