Nordisk Games, the Danish investment firm that in recent years has been financing and buying different European studios, has acquired 100% of Supermassive Games, the British studio responsible for Until Dawn, The Quarry, and the horror anthology The Dark Pictures. This according to an official statement by the company.
Nordisk Games bought 30.7% of the shares of the studio, which has more than 300 employees, in March 2021. The companies have not revealed how much the operation has been paid for. In addition, Supermassive will continue to work with its usual partners, such as Bandai Namco Entertainment, which released Man of Medan and will do the same with The Devil in Me this Fall.
“It’s been a little over a year since Nordisk Games made an initial investment in Supermassive Games and our vision for the future. During that time, we have found that we share a lot of important values with Mikkel and his team, and we believe these values to be equally important to our existing commercial partners who we will continue to support.'' Supermassive's CEO Pete Samuels said in the statement.
“I’m hugely excited about where the security offered by this partnership, and continued access to the expertise within Nordisk Games, will take us next,” Pete Samuels, CEO of Supermassive Games added.
Nordisk Games has acquired or financed in recent years European companies and studios such as Avalanche Studios Group (Just Cause, Mad Max), Star Stable Entertainment, Nitro Games, Flashbulb Games (Trailmakers), Kogama.com, and MercurySteam, the Madrid firm responsible for from Metroid Dread and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.
