Blizzard has two World of Warcraft related releases lined up: The Dragonflight expansion, which the company promised will see the light in the rest of 2022, and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic. The release date of the latter may have leaked.
According to Wowhead, World Of Warcraft's official website was briefly updated to state that it will release on September 26, 2022, along with an image that said: “The Lich King Returns September 26, 2022”.
Since this story was published, the date has been removed from the website and edited to its previous version. It might have been a mistake from Blizzard. Users from the forum seem to be very excited about this possibility.
However, we will have to wait until an announcement from the company clear us of doubts as to whether the information ends up being correct or not.
What can we expect from this recreation of the second expansion?
Having conquered Azeroth and Outland, the Lich King's hosts now await you on the frozen continent of Northrend. Eliminate the Scourge of the undead and face off against the Lich King himself atop Icecrown Citadel.
As we can see on its official website, Wrath of the Lich King Classic features:
- The Grim Frozen North: Players will begin their journey in one of two zones in Northrend—Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord—and experience some of the most epic vistas and beloved storylines in all of Warcraft before breaching the seat of the Lich King’s power in Icecrown.
- The Rise of Death Knights: Available to both factions and starting at level 55, Death Knights—WoW's first hero class—harness the powers of darkness to help combat the evil that threatens Azeroth.
- New profession—Inscription: This new profession allows players to scribe mystical glyphs that alter the appearance and modify the properties of spells and abilities, as well as craft powerful trinkets and off-hand items.
- Achievements Unlocked: Achievements are coming to WoW Classic, giving players a whole new set of rewards for their exploits and accomplishments.
- Dungeons & Raids: Relive seminal 5-player dungeons like Azjol-Nerub and the Culling of Stratholme, and lay siege to Naxxramas in a 10-player raid, an update of its original iteration as a 40-player raid in pre-expansion World of Warcraft.
Blizzard launched the Dragonflight Alpha test last week, focusing on several features of this expansion, including the introduction of Azure Span, one of the four new zones, and dragon riding, a new skill-based method of aerial travel that allows players fly on a customizable drake.
It will also include the Dracthyr, World of Warcraft’s first-ever combination race and class that is able to transform into humans, can be Horde or Alliance, and arrives alongside the new Evoker class.
