Chances are that the next version of the DualSense controller for PS5 is in the works or probably a whole brand new controller with non-Newtonian fluids, or at least this is expected.
Originally reported by Metro, Sony filed for a new patent which gives us a glimpse at how Sony may be planning to upgrade future versions, specifically on their analogue sticks.
DualShock is already good but there is always room for improvement
Seems like Sony is trying to upgrade the sticks with the use of non-newtonian fluids and if you don’t know what these fluids are capable of, don’t worry, we got you:
Non-Newtonian fluids change their viscosity or flow behaviour under stress. If you apply any kind of force to such fluids, the sudden application of stress can cause them to get thicker and act like a solid, or in some cases, it results in the opposite behaviour and they may get runnier than they were before.
How does this help to improve sticks? Well, they can serve as a shock absorber, creating “hydraulic resistance” to them, however, this could be troublesome for games that use the existing click or L3 and R3 for each stick.
As happens with many patents, this may or may not be used in the upcoming version of the controller. Actually, we have encountered many rumours about a DualSense Pro, a more expensive and refined version of the current DualSense. Only time will confirm if this feature would be added to all DualSense controllers in the future.
