Earlier today, Nintendo held a brief Treehouse Live event to delve into two of their upcoming titles, Splatoon 3 and HARVESTELLA. So, if you’re looking forward to playing any of them, here are some highlights from today’s event.
SPLATOON 3
The single-player story.
The single-player feature marks a different way of inking people that doesn’t involve the multiplayer mode that made the game so famous in the past. After a brief introduction to the Splatoon franchise (for those who haven’t heard of it before) during the live presentation, Nintendo offered a sneak peek at new locations for this format.
This initial part of the presentation also served as a great way to show how user-friendly the title can be, especially if it’s your first time playing Splatoon. What to do, what not to do. How to explore different locations and various elements for your squid character. Overall, very straightforward gameplay with a delightful conversation in the back.
The single-player mode offers a mission that can turn into an excellent opportunity to practice aiming and shooting ink without compromising your team. Also, it is handy to get “acquainted” with your enemies. This feature can help you to feel more comfortable with the controller options and learn how the squids and their weapons move throughout the game. Don’t worry; if you fail, fall, or lose in battle, you’ll respawn and get another chance to improve next time!
This event section was an excellent opportunity to catch some fantastic tips to get the most out of Splatoon 3 as soon as it comes out.
All the landscapes shown in the Treehouse event are amazing. Of course, some present more challenges than others, but all of them have something unique that will enhance your sklls when the team time is on.
What’s up with the Multiplayer mode
There wasn’t so much of a deep dive into the multiplayer mode as it was for the single-player mode. Nevertheless, there were a few moments that are worth mentioning here. In Splatoon 3, we will find new weapons that go from different kinds of pistols to an entire crab vehicle you can use to ink your foes. This Crab Tank is FATAL, so use it wisely.
This weapon marks an evolution in what you can use against your enemies, But if you’re used to inking in a more traditional way, you can always go for the Carbon Roller. Ink and smash with excellent mobility while you roll through the arena.
Also, a new way of moving through the ink was revealed. Since it can be pretty intense to dash between enemies and turn around to run away from them, the new feature allows changing direction much simpler and faster. The only downside is that this is a short-range weapon, so you might want to get your strategy to catch enemies that hide away from you.
For more extended range, there’s the Splash Archer. Reach additional spaces with a good aim and enough ink. Unluckily, if you’re not the best with a bow and arrow on your hand, this weapon will ask for more patience and practice before it comes in handy.
Alongside the new weapons and how they work, new strategic tips were revealed, especially if you’re looking to arrive at your enemy's side of the arena without getting caught in the act! Tread lightly, and you’ll succeed.
And then there are the lockers—a brand-new feature on Splatoon 3. Here, you can add weapons, items, stickers, colors, pictures, and a lot of stuff that will allow you to express yourself uniquely. Entirely customizable, the lockers can be shared with other players, creating a friendlier and more authentic in-game environment.
Oh, and last but not least, a quick look at the upcoming Nintendo Switch Splatoon OLED edition. From the looks of it, you’ll want it as much as I already do!
HARVESTELLA
A closer look at Square Enix’s HARVESTELLA gave us everything we were waiting for. No introduction, straight to the gameplay. The fantasy RPG narrates a story taking place in a small town that testifies to what appears to be an evil omen. A cristal-like meteor crashes, and guess what happens? Yup, everyone wants to satisfy their curiosity and check out what’s going on. A mysterious person appears from the crashing, which leads to a lot of suspicion and curiosity.
This is where the story begins. The theory and practice of harvesting begin as we delve into new ways of knowing the land and using it for our benefit. Also, new characters surface along the way; some of them turn out to be pretty harmless. But not all of them are. So beware who you invite to your party.
During the Treehouse Live presentation, some gameplay was shown. How to harvest, how plant, and water your produce. Harvesting never looked so cute!
What is marvelous about this new farming RPG game is how valuable your harvest can be. Not just for the sake of it, but for your town. Keeping yourself healthy will keep your farm healthy as well! So make sure to have a proper meal, and keep high levels of health and stamina to keep your crops growing pretty and prolific.
To close the HARVESTELLA section, Go Shiina, the composer for the game, shared some thoughts on creating moods and ambiance for different moments. Putting music into settings was a tremendous experience for Shiina, as he went back and ford with some rock subtitles with the challenge of not boring the players. In the end, the overall feeling of the music turns out to be pretty balanced as the story develops and the characters go through the story right to the end.
You can watch the entire event for more details on Splatoon 3 and HARVESTELLA!
