Can you imagine a Hitman movie directed by James Gunn? Well, let’s say that it was a time when he was very very close to doing it, "sadly" for some, Hollywood had something else for the filmmaker.
Usually, James Gunn spends a few minutes of his day answering questions from fans on Twitter, and a couple of days ago was no exception as a fan asked him if there were any video game series he thought would make an awesome film.
Weeks before I got Guardians I pitched a HITMAN movie. The studio really wanted to hire me, but a producer on the project did not. I was bummed then, but thank God, because I would have never been able to do GotG if they had said yes! https://t.co/0JYQGBsuGY

To everyone's surprise, the Guardians of the Galaxy director shared that he made the pitch for a film focused on IO Interactive's Hitman just "weeks" before he got the Guardians of the Galaxy direction.
Unfortunately, although things seemed to be going well, one of the producers wasn’t sure about it and as a result, plans never moved any further; of course, Gunn was bummed by the studio's final decision as he wanted the gig. Even with all this, the director was happy because only this way, he ended up directing Guardians of the Galaxy.
How the things ended for Hitman?
In case you don’t remember, a Hitman movie still made it to the big screen even if Gunn wasn't in the project. Called Hitman: Agent 47 premiered in 2015; directed by Aleksander Bach and starring Rupert Friend. Lamentably the movie didn’t perform as expected and the critics just slammed it.
A real surprise for all of us… however, we would still like to know if Gunn would be willing to direct another movie based on video games, perhaps only time will tell.
