Current Xbox brand manager Phil Spencer has not given up hope on making Square Enix's highly popular Final Fantasy 14 title available on Xbox consoles.
Spencer publicly committed to bringing the game to the Xbox in 2019, but three years later, there has been no news indicating positive developments in that direction.
This week, when Game Watch inquired about the status of the Xbox version, Spencer responded: “We certainly announced that (laughs). Naturally, we haven’t given up yet. This is a commitment from both Microsoft and Square Enix to gamers and we will continue to coordinate our efforts.”
In 2019, Square Enix stated that one of the major reasons for the game's delay on Xbox was the limitations of Xbox cross-play functionality, such as chatting and forming guilds with other players on other platforms. It is unknown whether this will continue to be a problem or if it will be the only one.
''We are aware of the common desire of the Xbox team to bring games from Japan to the Xbox. We are working to focus on creating such titles as a common consciousness of the Xbox team, so please look forward to our activities.'' Spencer said. Final Fantasy 14 was originally released in 2010 for PC and PlayStation 4 and was made available on PS5 in 2021.
