Will you need bigger or stronger weapons?

Dambuster Studio revealed new details about Dead Island 2 during an interview with the VG247 portal, focusing on the combat system and weapons that players will be able to use in the new zombie-themed post-apocalyptic adventure.

The new Dead Island will include a variety of firearms and blunt objects, but unlike the former, which will have a variety of ammunition scattered throughout the map, the tools for close combat will wear out quickly to the point of breaking, making them unusable.

"We want players to explore the entire set of weapons available; there are so many modifications, refinements, and other things within the game that we want players to experience everything," design director Adam Duckett explains, describing why item durability will be very subtle.

Given the abundance of equipment available, users will rarely find themselves unarmed: "Players can keep a wide variety of tools in their arsenal with them, so they will rarely find themselves without something they can use," the designer adds.

The game interface will include a weapon durability indicator, but disabling it may make the player feel even more immersed in the action: "You can safely disable the HUD and watch the weapon degrade before your eyes in stages. Users will then be able to look at the item and conclude that it is worn out, prompting them to replace it."

Dead Island 2 is set to come out on February 3, 2023, for PC (Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
