Another one! Nvidia “unlaunches” the RTX 4080 12GB

Because it’s not named right… Ok?

A couple of days ago we shared with you that Nvidia was cancelling the RTX GeForce 4090 Ti, after it was too powerful and dangerous as it melted the PC power supplies and itself during NVIDIA’s testing.

Now it seems that the 4090 Ti is not the only GPU to be held back, according to a statement posted on the Nvida official web, they are unlaunching The 12GB 4080. However, the reason seems a little confusing. According to them, the RTX 4080 12GB is a fantastic graphic card, sadly it’s not named right, as they have the RTX 4080 16GB and according to them having two GPUs with the 4080 designations is confusing.

It has 12 GB to differentiate them but ok…

Probably the company will rebrand the GPU at a later date with a different price tag, however, they have not shared any details by now. In case you were confused too, the RTX 4080 12GB and the RTX 4080 16GB were announced together, as part of Nvidia’s new RTX 40-series lineup, which is set to be twice as fast in rasterisation and four times faster in ray tracing than the previous generation’s Ampere architecture. Their differences are the amount of VRAM each one has, their different clock speeds, boost clocks, and numbers of CUDA cores.

Technically it should not be so complicated to differentiate between them but the decision has already been made.
