Cyberpunk 2077’s road to success has been rough to say the least. However, it took a brilliant anime to revive and save the game. Last month Cyberpunk: Edgerunners arrived and were a complete hit on Netflix.
The anime is one of the biggest productions of the year and its impact was such that it rescued the video game that, in part, gave birth to it. The quality is undeniable, and the end story left most viewers… sad and eager for more.

As expected fans started asking for a new season and both studios already have the answer so... get ready to keep crying.
During an interview with Famitsu, Satoru Honma, manager of CD Projekt's headquarters in Japan, talked about the possibility of a second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, due to the success of the anime had worldwide. Unfortunately, the story we saw in Night City was unique and its conclusion is a fact as there are no plans for a second season.
In Satoru’s own words:
"Personally, I would like to continue working with Japanese studios to produce more anime in the future, partly because we have received very good feedback. However, to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work, so there is no such thing as saying that we are actually working on season 2. Even if we could make more anime in the future, I don't know if it would be about this franchise or something completely different.”
To be fair, the way the anime ended was a big giveaway of the impossibility of a second season existing. However, we understand fans’ and viewers’ disappointment as the anime had an impressive production that perfectly complements the work of Mike Pondsmith, creator of the board game that inspired the Polish company to venture into a dystopian future proposal.

Despite this, hope dies last and you never know! Maybe sometime in the future, the studio develops a new IP with a whole different story, however, so far is a big no.
