During an event dedicated entirely to the franchise created by Reki Kawahara, Bandai Namco took the opportunity to unsettle fans and announce a new title set in the world of the famous isekai. It is Sword Art Online: Last Recollection, an action JRPG due out next year on consoles and PC.
The title, accompanied by a fast-paced announcement trailer that you can find attached to the news, will support both offline single-player and up to four-player networked sessions and will be set in the final stages of the war with Dark Territory troops.
What is this new title about?
"In the virtual world known as Underworld, which is approaching its final moments, a new adventure is about to begin," the plot information provided by the publisher reads.
"The gate separating the Human Empire from the Dark Territory is opening, and the war is about to begin. At that moment, a dark knight, accompanied by a young girl, comes flying in from the other side of the gate. Is this a calamity that will bring "an end" to their tragic fate now sealed?''
In case you missed it: Abandoned: Blue Box thanks Kojima for clarification on 'conspiracy theories.'
In this new adventure, which looks like it will take a slightly different path from the events in the anime and manga, we will reunite some familiar faces from SAO, such as Kirito, Asuna, Eugeo, and Alice, but also some mysterious new entries-Dorothy and Sarai. What will be their role in the conflict?
We will have to wait until 2023 to finally put this title to the test on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S|X, Xbox One, and PC. Are you excited to dive into this world? Let us know in the comments!
