This is a lawsuit-filled weekend, in case you missed it Epic Games have been sued by a Canadian Court for having created Fortnite in a way that is addictive to children and pre-teens. Now another lawsuit is making waves in every news portal after Riot Games sued Chinese company NetEase for copying “substantial parts of Valorant” in their mobile game Hyper Front.
Originally reported by Polygon the lawsuit has been filled in various countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, and Singapore.

Is basically a mobile clone
According to the lawsuit the free-to-play Hyper Front game is a copy of Valorant including characters, maps, weapons, weapon skins, and charms.
Also, it has been remarked by Riot Games that they released Valorant in 2020 on Windows PC, and it’s currently working on a mobile version, announced in 2021 however Hyper Front was released in 2022 on Android and iOS and has over 1 million downloads in less than a year, they are only available in the Chinese market.
“All of our creative choices are mirrored in NetEase’s game,” Riot's lawyer told Polygon. “We don’t think that changing the color of a character ability or slightly modifying the visual appearance changes the fact that it’s copyright infringement. It’s like that old saying, ‘You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.’”
Riot is going hard on them as the lawsuit asks the courts to force NetEase to shut down Hyper Front, and for “substantial” damages, while they didn’t specify how much money it is, we bet is a million-dollar suit.
This is not the first time NetEase has been in trouble, back in 2018 the were sued by PUBG Corp. over NetEase’s Knives Out and Rules of Survival, which PUBG Corp. said were infringing on PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, this one was settled in 2019 but the details were not disclosed.
