A Death Stranding movie is revealed to be in development

During The Game Awards 2022 all the audience and viewers were surprised by the unexpected announcement trailer of Death Stranding 2.

However, it is not the only surprise that Kojima wanted to share with everyone, as now via Deadline's exclusive brings the news of a Death Stranding film that is under development along with Hideo Kojima and Alex Lebovici as the official producers.

Yesterday, December 14, Kojima Productions stated via Twitter, "Friday, December 16, Kojima Productions will be celebrating its 7th anniversary! This week, we will be releasing content to commemorate our anniversary. Here's to a new start." And speculation of a Death Stranding's DLC went afloat as covered in our previous article.

What nobody anticipated is that a day before the anniversary, a Death Stranding film would be revealed. And it is now confirmed by the Deadline's exclusive news article.

As Deadline states, the movie will be "fully financed by Hammerstone (producers of horror film Barbarian), produced by Kojima and Lebovici, with Kojima Productions US and Allan Ungar serving as exec producers." Moreover, it was stated that new characters and elements will be added while staying within Death Stranding's universe.

“I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios. This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them in bringing DEATH STRANDING to the big screen.” - Hideo Kojima

Following Kojima's remarks, Lebovici added “We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation. Unlike other big budget tentpole video game adaptations, this will be something far more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This film will be an authentic “Hideo Kojima” production.”

This is surely a big surprise for all Death Stranding fans. Knowing Hideo Kojima's cinematographic works within the games, we can expect a very interesting film that will possibly be loved by everyone. The movie is now on the fast track, with development underway, meaning that we might get some news regarding the film during 2023.
