As the list of PlayStation VR2 launch games expands, more details emerge about the possibilities of accessing the early PlayStation VR catalog via the new visor.
Hideaki Nishino spoke about this recently during an interview granted to the editorial staff of Famitsu. The technology used by PlayStation VR2, the Sony executive, explained, differs profoundly from that employed by the first PS VR-a circumstance that will make any porting operations rather complex.
Why would porting be complicated?
What will make the process particularly complex, says Hideaki Nishino, will be the gaze-tracking functions used by the new hardware. These, in fact, impact many aspects of the experience, including the handling of the resolution of PlayStation VR2 titles.
These circumstances have convinced Sony to forgo backward compatibility on PlayStation VR2 and leave it up to individual software houses to decide whether or not to port their PS VR games. Each development team, Nishino confirmed, will therefore have carte blanche in choosing whether or not to invest resources in repurposing a game designed for Sony's first-generation Virtual Reality.
