There is something Tencent doesn’t own?

Tencent, the Chinese conglomerate is GIGANTIC, yes, with caps. And in the last year they have set out to expand their empire further, so naturally, the next step has been to acquire more studios in Asia, this time the company has invested in the South Korean studio Shift Ups.

Shift Ups is better known for Goddess of Victory: Nikke a mobile RPG third-person shooter and Destiny Child a mobile narrative RPG game; both are available worldwide on either iOS or Android. That is not all, not long ago during Sony's State of Play their very awaited action RPG, Project Eve was renamed Stellar Blade and is an upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive.

With this purchase, Tencent is now the second-largest shareholder in Shift Ups along with Smilegate Investment, IMM Investment, LINE FRIENDS, Kakao Corp and Kakao Ventures.

This may not be surprising as Goddess of Victory: Nikke generated over $100 million in consumer spending which was expected as the game uses the gatcha model; and surpassed three million pre-registrations ahead of its release making it an instant success.
