Dead Space is a game that earned a place in the survival horror genre in the previous decade. Although it got many aspects right, the title is not perfect, and as proof of this is an element that EA Motive modified to avoid frustration.
There are less than 2 weeks left for the remake of the 2008 title to be released and for players to discover all the new features. However, the team behind the project continues to share details ahead of the release. One of the latest revelations is that a change was made to make exploring the Ishimura less complicated.
The map won't stay the same
We are talking about the map. However, we don't mean it in the sense that the new Ishimura ship will have locations that were not present in the original game. We mean that the map itself will look different, as it will be 2D instead of 3D. At first instance, that could be something negative or a downgrade, but the truth is the opposite.
While the map looked somewhat cool in 3D and didn't clash with the game's futuristic setting and technology, the truth is that manipulating it wasn't that easy.
In an interview with Inverse, director of filmmaking Joel MacMillan acknowledged that it could be "a little bit of frustration around how to control" and locate yourself on the original 3D map.
"You’d have to kind of rotate it to figure out what's the best angle to see where your character is and where you need to go"; so in this regard, instead of embellishing this aspect, they opted to simplify it and present it in 2D in favor of its "clarity and the readability."
Below you can see a sequence that shows how the original map was projected in 3D. We have not yet been able to see how the map appears in the remake. However, it is important to mention that the 3D map did not last long in the franchise, as later installments opted to change it to 2D.
In case you missed it: Oh no! It seems that Fire Emblem: Engage has already leaked online
Dead Space Remake is set to arrive on January 27, 2023, so don't forget to pin the date on your calendar. It will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
What do you think of this change for the remake? Do you prefer the 3D or 2D map? Let us know in the comments!
