For some time now, Riot Games has confirmed that it was preparing several adjustments to the price of League of Legends champions. Finally, there is more information about it and the company has already revealed all the details of the new system and the changes it will make in the near future.

The studio said that the current pricing system is somewhat archaic, as it is based only on the age of the champions and their release. Now it will not only focus on these parameters, as it will also take into account "how many seasons the champion has seen rather than how many champions have released since."

They explained that their goal is for new players to be able to find their main in an accessible way and for returning MOBA fans to be able to meet other characters as well. He added that another of their goals is to keep releasing new characters at the current rate. The newest ones will be priced higher initially but will be discounted 1 week later. This will be repeated after 2 Seasons.

Characters that had a recent rework or minor gameplay adjustments and that change levels will also have their prices adjusted, as Riot believes that "they’ve become better experiences for new or returning players." Lastly, it pointed out that it will do everything possible to avoid upgrading a champion to a higher level. Below, we share with you the updated prices.

To present the new pricing system, Riot divided the champions into different levels taking into account the parameters mentioned above. The adjustments will favor the community in general, but it is also important to mention that there will be increases in very specific cases.

On the other hand, Riot will also release a pack of new champions. The studio promised that this novelty will be offered at an even more accessible price and that it will " cover a variety of gameplay roles within each tier." The studio also revealed that the adjustments will take effect as of version 13.5 of the game.

  • 450 BE / 260 RP - Champions that are awesome for new players (Malphite, Miss Fortune, and Yuumi)
  • 1350 BE / 585 RP - Champions that are a bit more complex than the lower tier, but still approachable for interested folks (Yasuo, Lucian, and Sett)
  • 3150 BE / 790 RP - Champions that have a larger degree of difficulty or specialization in their play (LeBlanc, Shaco, and Yorick)
  • 4444 BE / 880 RP - Riot states that "only perfection and beauty are allowed at this tier."
  • 4800 BE / 880 RP - The majority of the roster will live here.
  • 6300 BE / 975 RP - Champions that have come out in the past two seasons, after which they will move to the tier above after the next season starts.
  • 7800 BE / 975 RP - Champions that have come out in the past week.

Riot noted that there are some exceptions, as Singed, Kayle, Twisted Fate, and Ryze will increase in price to 4800 EA. From his perspective, these are champions that are not ideal for newbies. On the other hand, he promised to keep their price at 260 RP to be a bit more affordable with the adjustment.

This is good news that will give some benefits to new players so they can get interested in continuing playing their title, just as the studio commented that this "should make it easier for players starting their journey to find the fun in League. Without discounts, this equates to a reduction of 140,606 BE and 14,905 RP for our champion catalog!"
