Through a social media post, Riot Games confirmed that VALORANT and the Vanguard anti-cheat system will no longer be compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 operating systems as of March 14. This means that the free-to-play FPS will no longer work on computers running those operating systems, potentially affecting millions of users.
This move seeks to protect the game and its players from attacks by cheaters and hackers. In the release, the developer studio argued that switching support to newer versions of Windows will make it possible to take advantage of the latest features and security patches, which will make it harder for hackers to work.
Many players won't be able to play VALORANT anymore
While this decision is controversial, it seems to be the most logical one to protect the integrity of VALORANT and the community. In the end, older operating systems are more vulnerable to malware and other attacks, as well as being more useful for running hacks and other programs that provide an unfair advantage in multiplayer games.
Players who wish to play VALORANT will need to upgrade their operating systems to at least Windows 10, which means a small increase in the minimum requirements. At the beginning of 2023, Microsoft confirmed that it stopped investing resources in the development of updates for Windows 7, leaving the operating system exposed to possible computer attacks. In a similar vein, Google stopped supporting the Google Drive application in Windows 7.
Starting March 14, VALORANT/Vanguard will end support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 for security reasons. By switching support to the newer version of Windows, we can take advantage of the latest security features and patches–making it harder on cheaters.

In case you missed it: Starfield event announcement to happen very soon, reliable source says
The fact that there are many players who do not have the possibility to play is certainly a very complicated decision to make and much more to announce. Making these changes to allow fairer gameplay and avoid cheating programs has a higher price than anyone expected.
And in your case, will you be able to continue playing VALORANT despite this change? What will you do if you don't get access to this game when this update arrives? Let us know in the comments.
