Has the Cold War reached video games? Not exactly, but according to reports from Microsoft and based on what happened a few days ago on a Discord server, it is claimed that the Russians are trying to cause trouble in gaming communities.

Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, not only has to deal with regulators and the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King but also with national security issues. According to a report by Gamesindustry.biz, Brad Smith was questioned at the Semafor World Economic Summit about the recent incident on a Minecraft Discord server where classified documents on the war between Russia and Ukraine were leaked, as Microsoft owns the franchise.

According to the Microsoft president, the incident is due to an attempt by Russian groups to penetrate gaming communities, and confirmed that according to internal analysis, Russian forces are trying to infiltrate virtual gaming spaces to spread information: "I'll put this in the right context. It's not like playing Call of Duty is going to lead to deaths in the real world, I mean these are video games. What people are talking about is that around games you have a community of players coming together, talking to each other, even while they're playing. Over the last few months, our digital threat analysis team has been identifying Russian efforts to basically penetrate game communities and we've been advising governments on this. It's the Wagner Group, Russian intelligence, and they're using this as a place to circulate information. That's what happened, including the Minecraft Discord channel and other communities."
This situation could be related to the recent removal of support for the Russian language in Starfield on Steam, after all, Bethesda is owned by Microsoft, as it is indicated that a few days ago the game's official site removed all tags and relations with Russia, meaning the game will not have an interface or subtitles in the language.
