The wave of layoffs at digital tech companies is still underway and some of the cuts have impacted video game studios. This time the bad news comes from Meta and its virtual reality division with a decision that cost several developers their jobs.
READY AT DAWN LOSES ONE-THIRD OF ITS WORKERS TO LAYOFFS AT META
Amid Meta cuts to reduce its workforce by 10,000 by May of this year, it was confirmed that one-third of Ready at Dawn workers lost their jobs. The news was revealed by Thomas Griebel, programmer of the studio, who pointed out that he along with other workers were fired by Mark Zuckerberg's company. In case you don't know, in 2020 Meta bought Ready at Dawn before the hype for the Metaverse and what seemed to be the definitive rise of virtual environments.

According to the programmer, the employees laid off from Ready at Dawn in this cut should be added to those who have left in recent months because he said that since August to date the studio has lost half of its workforce.
Ready at Dawn is a California-based studio and is known for developing the God of War installments on PlayStation Portable, the Wii port of Okami, the infamous The Order: 1886. After that installment, the studio leaned towards virtual reality with the Echo franchise.
Unfortunately, these are not the only layoffs to impact gaming studios as it was also confirmed that Meta fired workers from Downpour Interactive, the studio responsible for the tactical shooter Onward.
