After a long wait, Redfall, the new multiplayer video game developed by Arkane, debuted earlier this week. Unfortunately, it was unable to resonate with the community and received very negative reviews. It seems that this disappointment was also reflected in the number of players.
Redfall had a rocky start on Steam
The vampire title achieved a peak of only 6124 concurrent players on Steam, making it one of Arkane's worst debuts on the Valve platform. To contextualize, we must remember that DEATHLOOP achieved 20,094 simultaneous players and Dishonored 2 achieved 22,411.
Also, Redfall got fewer players on Steam during its launch than Forspoken, a Square Enix title that obtained a historic peak of 12,570 users on the Valve platform despite receiving very negative reviews from players and critics at launch.
Of course, it is important to note that Arkane and Bethesda's new title is also available at no additional cost to all Xbox Game Pass members. It’s possible that a large sector of the community decided to give it a chance through Microsoft's subscription service.
Still, it is noteworthy that Redfall achieved a relatively low user count on Steam, especially if we consider that is a game with a strong emphasis on multiplayer elements. At the time of writing this article, there are only 1,944 simultaneous players on Valve's platform.
While acknowledging that the debut was challenging, a developer from the studio expressed pride for the game and said that they will work to improve it. Meanwhile, users have already expressed their dissatisfaction with the technical problems affecting the PC and Xbox Series S versions.
But tell us, have you tried this title? What did you think? Do you think it deserves a chance? Let us know in the comments.
Redfall is available for PC, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass.
