Tim Cain, creator of Fallout and director of The Outer Worlds, spoke about his admiration for Bethesda for the work they have done in the series. Although he admitted to not having played all the titles in the franchise, Cain spent a lot of time playing Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout New Vegas, and particularly praised the impact that Fallout 3 had in revitalizing the franchise.
While the most popular Fallout installments are those made under the banner of Bethesda, the reality is that longtime fans believe the series lost some of its charm after changing hands. Having said that, Cain believes that Bethesda Softworks' work on the series is amazing.
"They're really good games," Cain said in a video on his YouTube channel. "Bethesda knows how to make a good game. Skyrim is a good game. It's fun, it's addictive, it's soothing in some way. I love immersing myself in their games and just playing and walking around the world and exploring."
Cain explained that he has had the opportunity to spend many hours on Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout New Vegas. In fact, he has completed some of them more than once. However, he made it clear that he has not had the chance to play Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel or Fallout 76.
The creator also pointed out that Fallout 3 is a high-quality game and noted that it was responsible for revitalizing the series and allowing it to become what it is today: "When you come out of the vault, I mean, it was amazing to see. The game itself was also a lot of fun. I know it wasn't to everyone's liking, but it was incredible. And it revitalized Fallout."
Having said that, Cain made it clear that the ideas Bethesda has for Fallout are not the same as the ones he would have. That being said, he is "super happy" that someone took the reins of the series and is creating "these amazing games for us to play."
Finally, Cain invited Bethesda to listen to the modding community when they start developing Fallout 5. This is because he believes that these fans have some of the best ideas in the franchise, and their support would undoubtedly make the developer deliver a better video game that will entertain players for hours.
