The fighting game will have a revamped combat system and a Beta

After a few teasers and a lot of mystery, Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios finally revealed their new game: Mortal Kombat 1. That's right, the popular fighting franchise will have a reboot that will retain all its brutality and exciting fights.

The developer wants fans to have a new perspective on the franchise's universe, so Mortal Kombat 1 promises a new fighting system, diverse game modes and impressive finishing attacks.

The reboot will feature iconic characters from the saga as fans have never seen them before. This is because it will be based on a new universe of the saga created by Liu Kang, a character that will be very important in the title.

When will Mortal Kombat 1 debut and where can it be played?

Fans of the saga will only have to wait a few months to enjoy Mortal Kombat 1, as it will be available on September 19. NetherRealm Studios focused on the development for PlayStation 5 and Xbox X Series X|S, leaving behind PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, consoles that will not receive the game.

On the other hand, we know that the QLOC studio is in charge of the PC version of the game, which will arrive on Steam and the Epic Games Store. To the surprise of some, this title will indeed be available for Nintendo Switch. The port for the hybrid console is being handled by Shiver Entertainment and Sabre Interactive.

NetherRealm confirmed that the standard edition of the game will be sold in physical and digital format for $69.99 USD. It also revealed that there will be a Beta that will be available in August for those who pre-order the title. The pre-sale will start on May 19. We also know that the title will have cross-play and cross-progression, as well as support for rollback netcode.

What characters and modes will Mortal Kombat 1 have?

As for the character roster, the studio has only confirmed Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung and Johnny Cage for now. We also know that there will be Kameo Fighters, defined as a "unique roster of partner characters to assist during matches". More details on this feature will be available soon.

Regarding game modes, the developers confirmed a story mode focused on a new narrative with unexpected twists and surprises. Also, there will be online and offline modes, but there are no details about them yet. Below you can see the first trailer of the game:
