This year, Nintendo Switch received its first $70 USD game with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. If you were hoping that the exclusive release would be the only one with this new price on the hybrid console, we have bad news for you, as there is another release for the hybrid that will cost $70 USD.
This morning, NetherRealm and Warner Bros. Games announced Mortal Kombat 1, the next installment and reboot of the famous fighting franchise. Something that surprised many is that it will be a game without a release for last-gen consoles but will have a version for the Nintendo Switch.
The above indicates that WB Games sees Mortal Kombat 1 as a next-generation experience and that is why it will have the price of new releases for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on all platforms. This means that it will cost you $70 USD regardless of whether you buy it on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC or Nintendo Switch.
So, before the end of the year, Nintendo Switch will have at least 2 $70 USD games in its catalog: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Mortal Kombat 1. It's not ruled out that other distributors decide to follow the trend and that we'll see more games with this price on Nintendo's successful console.
Let's remember that distributors such as PlayStation, Xbox, Take-Two, Electronic Arts, and soon SEGA increased the price of their games to $70 USD. With the arrival of this price to Nintendo Switch, we cannot rule out that these companies also decide to raise the price of ports of upcoming high-profile releases.
What do you think of this news? Are you willing to pay $70 USD per game for Nintendo Switch, or do you think it's too much? Let us know in the comments.
