Jim Ryan, head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, knows that gamers are concerned about a possible price increase in PlayStation products. Especially since PlayStation 5 increased its price in the middle of last year due to global inflation.
For this reason, he spoke about the issue recently and made it clear that there could be other similar adjustments in the future. Ryan did not rule out price increases in PlayStation products, but emphasized that they will only be made in cases where it is necessary and the new cost is justified.
Jim Ryan does not discard PlayStation price increases
Ryan spoke about the current state and future of PlayStation in a recent meeting with investors. There he was questioned about a possible price increase in PlayStation's products, including its services, games and consoles.
The executive stated that they will make price increases if they believe they are justified. He explained that they continually study the price of their products and services from various perspectives, so they analyze the costs offered by the competition and the state of the economy in general. He recalled the price increase in PlayStation 5 and emphasized that the situation could be repeated with other products and services in the future.
"We are constantly looking at the pricing of our products and services, whether it's in the context of competition, the context of a macro-economic situation, or the value we believe those products and services provide.
"You will be aware that we took the step to raise the price of the PS5 in everywhere outside of the US. We are prepared to take these steps when we feel they are justified and necessary, and we are constantly considering the prices of our hardware, and our games, and services, and that includes PlayStation Plus." said Ryan.
The executive stressed that they currently have nothing to announce regarding price adjustments, so players can remain calm, at least for now. However, the news worries fans of the brand, who fear a price increase in several products, especially in PlayStation Plus.
