This week's PlayStation Showcase divided the opinion of gamers, as not everyone was satisfied with what was shown. Mainly due to the absence of major PlayStation Studios teams and their projects.
Despite this, Jim Ryan, head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, celebrated what was shown at the event and affirmed that they accomplished their mission of showing "the best and most varied catalog of games" for PlayStation fans. He also highlighted the hardware announcements made during the presentation.
Jim Ryan was satisfied with the PlayStation Showcase
Following the PlayStation Showcase, Ryan shared a few words about the event and its announcements via a statement (via PushSquare). The executive noted that the presentation was a result of Sony's "unwavering commitment" to offer its gamers compelling and highly varied titles.
PlayStation also wanted to make it clear that it is making significant investments in hardware with PlayStation VR2, Project Q and accessories presented during the event, such as the new PlayStation earbuds.
Another goal of the event was to showcase even more of PlayStation's expansion with games as a service. As you probably already know, the event received multiple criticisms on social networks for allegedly not living up to the brand and its previous presentations.
"Our fans expect and deserve a steady cadence of amazing content. Today’s presentation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to offering them the best and most varied catalog of games possible. It also highlights the tremendous popularity and power of the PS5 as the global development community rallies to push its advanced capabilities to the limit.
"We’re investing heavily in the future with innovative best-in-class hardware like PlayStation VR2 and the newly revealed Project Q, and our expansion into PC, Mobile, and Live Service gaming is transforming how and where our content can be enjoyed." explained Ryan.
Some fans are hoping that PlayStation has other announcements in store for the remainder of the year, as one of the main complaints was that the PlayStation Showcase took too long to return and, in the end, didn't live up to everyone's expectations.
