The developer will remain open despite the layoffs

Electronic Arts has a reputation for being a studio devourer, as it has closed a significant number of developers throughout its history. Now, it seems that another team is on the ropes, as it will lose many employees and various projects.

According to reports, EA will lay off two-thirds of Firemonkeys' workers, an Australia-based studio that specializes in mobile games. Also, the company will lose various projects with the idea of only working on one title at a time.

FIREMONKEYS IS ON THE ROPES AFTER LAYOFFS

Thanks to Kotaku Australia, we know that Firemonkeys' developers are disheartened, as many of their colleagues will lose their jobs or be moved to other projects. Due to the reduction in staff, the company will also lose several of its current games which it supports.

Real Racing 3 and Need for Speed: No Limits will be passed to EA's Hyderabad-based studio in India. Meanwhile, Firemonkeys will only maintain The Sims FreePlay after its restructuring process.

According to the information, EA executives traveled to the studio to share the bad news. They presented their new approach to the studio, based on handling only one title at a time. We also know that Joe Donoghue, general manager of Firemonkeys, was fired in late April.

The studio workers will help with the transition of Real Racing 3 and Need for Speed: No Limits to the Indian team despite their uncertain future.

This is not the first time that Firemonkeys has been in trouble and fallen victim to layoffs. In 2019, the studio lost about 100 of its members following the cancellation of Real Racing 4.
