Cyberpunk 2077 was not the revolution that we imagined after so many years of development and advances in events by CD Projekt. The disastrous debut was followed by a series of updates that gave it a better face, but in the end, the feeling is that it did not live up to its potential. Despite this, the Polish company has plans for the future of the franchise, including a sequel, but it seems that we are far from knowing about it.

THE CYBERPUNK 2077 SEQUEL WILL BEGIN DEVELOPMENT IN 2024
During a recent session with investors (via Tweak Town), CD Projekt reported on the status of Project Orion, the codename for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel that will be the responsibility of the company's newly founded studios in Boston and Vancouver. According to CD Projekt, the next chapter in the franchise will enter the research and development phase in 2024, meaning that it is still in the beginning stages of its process, and if we consider how long AAA games take to develop nowadays, it's safe to say that it will be many years before we see it become a reality.
On the other hand, this announcement comes with bad news for those who were expecting more from Cyberpunk 2077, as CD Projekt announced that efforts in the development of Project Orion will focus fully once the Phantom Liberty expansion is released, which will happen at some point in the remaining 2023. This implies that work around the troubled first installment will have come to an end.
Expectations are that the debut of Phantom Liberty will bring with it a significant update that will improve the Night City experience for the last time, but once that happens, everything will be said and done for this title that aimed to be historic but did not survive its hype.
