For years, it was thought that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was a PlayStation 3 exclusive game, and until now this has been true in a way since it only lives on that console. It has not had a port, remaster, or re-release. However, this had nothing to do with an agreement between Konami and Sony, and even the development team contemplated the possibility of it coming out on Xbox 360 because, contrary to what was thought, it ran very well on the console.
Members of Kojima Productions were Sony fans and rejected Xbox 360
A report from Time Extension shared a quote from Ryan Payton's publication Ultimate History of Video Games: Volume 2, who worked at Kojima Productions during the era of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, in which he reveals that the game ran well on Xbox 360. According to the producer, there was some reluctance from the development team to work with Microsoft hardware because they were Sony fans, so they thought that Metal Gear Solid 4 wouldn't work on Xbox 360.
However, Payton revealed that Konami's research and development team pursued their own line of work and at some point gathered everyone to show that the game worked on an Xbox 360, far from the idea that Kojima Productions had formed: "despite how oppressed my colleagues were with the PS3 development, most of them were still die-hard Sony fans and not in favor of spending resources on such a test. They believed that MGS4 would look and perform terribly on Microsoft's older and inferior hardware. One fateful day, Konami's R&D team organized a meeting where we could see the fruits of their labor: Metal Gear Solid 4 running beautifully and smoothly on Xbox 360. As one of the few unabashed Xbox fans in the office, I was thrilled."
Although the tests were in favor of a version of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for Xbox 360, Konami did not approve it due to the disc format used by the console because the size of the game as a whole had no problems fitting on a single Blu-ray in PS3, but in the case of Microsoft's system, multiple discs would have to be used, and the Japanese company considered it would not be a good business decision.
