It was recently revealed that Microsoft considered buying SEGA and Bungie to power Xbox Game Pass. However, documents reveal that the tech giant actually has a list of more than 100 studios that are candidates to join Xbox Game Studios.
The list includes developers and distributors from all over the world, so there are everything from major studios focused on AAA games to prominent indie teams. Documents reveal that Xbox and Microsoft are continually analyzing the studios' work to find potential partners and, of course, potential purchases.
These studios were on Xbox's radar for a possible purchase
The list in question includes renowned studios such as CD Projekt RED, FromSoftware, Remedy Entertainment, Larian Studios and Gearbox. As you well know, these are very prominent developers that caught the attention of Microsoft and Xbox for their catalog of franchises and excellent games.
On the indie developer side, the list lists studios such as Team Cherry, Hello Games, Facepunch Studios and Mundfish, creators of Hollow Knight, No Man's Sky, RUST and Atomic Heart, respectively.
The document is a sort of wish list for Microsoft and Xbox; however, it is clear that they cannot acquire some of the mentioned studios outright, as they are already part of a conglomerate, as is the case with FromSoftware and Gearbox, for example.
Despite the above, it is noteworthy that quite a few studios on the list reached an agreement with Xbox to be part of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Although it has not closed any purchases, the company has managed to get important deals with several developers. Below you can meet other studios included in the list:
