This weekend, the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest is taking place, an event that brings together the global community of Final Fantasy XIV to celebrate the MMO. While the event is focused on the 10th anniversary of the series, Square Enix couldn't miss the opportunity to share news. One of them was the revelation of Dawntrail, a new expansion that will take us to a region inspired by Mexico.
At the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest, Square Enix showcased a preview and the first details about Dawntrail, the expansion that will take us back to Final Fantasy XIV after Endwalker tied up several loose ends in its narrative. In this expansion, MMORPG players will visit a new region known as Tural, a region located to the west of Eorzea, the world we already know.
According to Square Enix, their intention with the fifth main expansion for Final Fantasy XIV is to offer the "best summer vacation" a hero could wish for. This is to provide a change of pace from what we saw at the end of Endwalker and thus begin a new chapter in the story of the Warrior of Light. In this new narrative, we will witness the ritual in which Tural chooses a new leader, which will lead to divisions among its people.
Something that caught the attention of Tural and Tuliyollal, its central city, is that they seem to be inspired by Mexico. Not only because of their geographical position within the world of Final Fantasy XIV, but also because in the preview, we can see the heroes enjoying a food clearly inspired by tacos and quesadillas. On the other hand, we will also see the return of the Pelupelu, a race we met in Final Fantasy X and who appear in this MMORPG as producers of Mezcal.
What else to expect from Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail?
Of course, Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail will not be limited to presenting a new story, an area inspired by Mexico, and that's it. The expansion will also have other novelties that will be part of Patch 7.0.
Among the things that fans can expect from Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is an increase in the level cap from 90 to 100. There will also be new abilities for all jobs, as well as some new ones. On the other hand, there will be more dungeons and enemies.
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail will debut in the summer of 2024.
