As Ubisoft aims to overcome its darkest period and return to the top, the company is making some tough decisions. Recent reports revealed the cancellation of the sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising, a well-received adventure game inspired by Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, the reasons behind this decision have now come to light.
The cancellation of Immortals Fenyx Rising sequel in favor of Assassin's Creed Red
Amidst criticism and lamentations over the apparent cancellation of the Immortals Fenyx Rising sequel, information about the reason behind this decision has surfaced. It is essential to approach this information with caution since the project was never officially announced, and if it was indeed canceled, Ubisoft would keep it internal. According to a report by Stephen Totilo, a journalist from Axios, Ubisoft chose to redirect its main development teams' efforts towards the successful completion of the upcoming major release of Assassin's Creed.

Asking around, I heard that Immortals 2's focus on Polynesian gods was promising and being handled well. But it sounds like getting AC Red done is the priority at the Quebec City studio https://t.co/KsJF8grBqN
In response to a report by VGC, a Ubisoft representative stated: "As part of our global strategy, we are redirecting and realigning some creative teams and resources within the Quebec studio to other undisclosed projects. The expertise and technologies these teams developed will serve as accelerators for the development of these key projects focused on our most important brands. We have nothing further to share at this time."
Stephen Totilo also points out that Ubisoft's priority is to finalize the development and ensure a successful release of Assassin's Creed Red, a highly anticipated entry set in feudal Japan that has generated excitement due to its groundbreaking nature for the franchise. It is believed that Ubisoft will now concentrate its efforts on bolstering the Assassin's Creed series, which has brought success to the company in the past and could potentially be the savior of their current situation.
