Controversy surrounding the Baldur's Gate 3 version on Xbox Series X|S is hotter than ever after members of Larian, the studio responsible for the action RPG, acknowledged that Xbox Series S has been a challenge, requiring specific work to meet the quality standard. Unfortunately, this situation has only delayed the game for those who are eagerly awaiting it on Microsoft's consoles, and a piece of bad news has recently been shared.
Baldur's Gate 3 may not arrive on Xbox Series X|S until 2024
Michael Douse, the publishing director of Baldur's Gate 3, touched on the issue again, pointing out the problems the development team is facing with Xbox Series S. According to the director, there is no exclusivity situation on consoles, and the reason the RPG will be released first on PC, a month later on PS5, while no date has been set for Xbox, is that they haven't been able to make the split-screen experience work on the less powerful Microsoft console.
Regarding this, Douse mentioned that they are obligated to release the game with content and features parity on all platforms, so releasing Baldur's Gate 3 without this option on Xbox Series X|S is impossible due to commercial agreements.
We have quite a few engineers working very hard to do what no other RPG of this scale has achieved: seamless drop-in, drop-out co-op on Series S. We hope to have an update by the end of the year.

Later, the director assured that they have some engineers working on the Baldur's Gate 3 version for Xbox Series S, specifically addressing what happens with the cooperative split-screen mode. However, the bad news came when he mentioned that news about this version won't be available until the end of this year, indicating that Baldur's Gate 3 may not arrive on Xbox Series X|S until 2024.
Recently, the project lead of Baldur's Gate 3 spoke about the situation with Xbox Series S and stated that the console is not a hindrance, but it requires a specific approach and considerations that differ from the standard process they use to make the game run on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
