Are we truly owners of the games we purchase? This question comes to the forefront whenever a company announces that the servers for one or more of their titles will cease to operate. On this occasion, the online components of 3 popular Electronic Arts games are on their last legs.
The company has a website where they provide information about games that will have their servers shut down. This way, players can know the date and platforms where this will occur. Unfortunately, the list was recently updated and new titles were added.
According to the information, Crysis 3, Dead Space 2, and Dante's Inferno will bid farewell to their multiplayer and online components by the end of this year. While EA has not yet made the formal announcement on social media, these titles already appear on the list alongside the date their servers will be switched off.
SERVERS OF CRYSIS 3, DEAD SPACE 2, AND DANTE’S INFERNO will CLOSE
The first on the list is Crysis 3, the latest installment in the Crytek franchise. Its servers will be unavailable starting September 7th on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. Thus, players will lose access to competitive modes. Since online modes were absent in Crysis 3 Remastered, that version won't be affected by the shutdown.
Next, Dante’s Inferno and Dead Space 2 will bid farewell to their servers on December 8th. From that date, the cooperative mode of the first game and the Outbreak aspect of the second title will cease to be available on all platforms. While these are the most significant casualties, on October 30th the online services of the mobile title Restaurant Dash: Gordon Ramsay will also cease to operate.
While it's common for servers of older games to go offline due to dwindling player traffic, it's always disappointing to learn that a significant part of a title will become unavailable. In early 2023, 3 Medal of Honor games bid farewell to their online components. Similarly, 3 retro Battlefield experiences were discontinued.
But tell us, what are your thoughts on this situation? Do you still play any of the titles on the list? Let us hear from you in the comments section.
