Microsoft announced today that it will close the Xbox 360 store in the middle of next year. While most games had a physical release and many of them will be preserved through backward compatibility, some will be lost forever with the store's closure.
Many games will disappear due to the closure of the Xbox 360 store
Thanks to the Xbox ecosystem, the vast majority of titles will remain available and can be purchased on modern systems like Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. However, it appears that some games are destined to disappear.
According to VGC, there are at least 220 digital games that will not be preserved and will be lost with the closure of the Xbox 360 store. This means there will be no way to access or acquire them through any means starting from the middle of next year.
In its report, it reveals that games from the Xbox LIVE Arcade catalog are the ones at the highest risk since they didn't have a physical release. So, the only way to obtain and preserve them will be to acquire them before the store's closure.
However, among the list, there are titles that will disappear from Xbox but will remain available on other platforms or have enhanced versions. Despite this, the store closure is expected to be another blow to the preservation of the medium. Below is the list of games that will disappear, courtesy of VGC:
