After weeks of speculation, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. confirmed in July that Peacemaker, Omni-Man, and more characters would be featured in Mortal Kombat 1. Today, we know that the character portrayed by John Cena in real life will make a virtual appearance in the game.
While it seemed likely from the DLC character reveal trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 that the American wrestler and actor would be involved in the project, judging by the resemblance to the character from the 2022 series and the movie The Suicide Squad.
However, it hadn't been confirmed until now. In an interview at gamescom 2023, Ed Boon confirmed to IGN (via GamingBolt) that Cena will return to portray the DC Universe antihero.
Will Warner Bros. characters in Mortal Kombat be voiced by the actors from the movies and series?
While this was expected, it's important to remember that it shouldn't be taken for granted. For instance, in Mortal Kombat 11, Terminator was based on the likeness of the legendary actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, but he did not provide the voice.
However, it appears the opposite will happen in Mortal Kombat 1, as NetherRealm Studios has already confirmed that J. K. Simmons will return to voice Omni-Man. Given this, it's expected that Antony Starr will also voice Homelander, as he did in The Boys.
We'll keep you informed.
