After a long wait, Starfield, Bethesda's latest project, is now available. According to both players and critics, it's a great game that, overall, met the community's expectations; however, detractors have started making comparisons to highlight the rough edges of this open-world title.
This new RPG from Bethesda debuted with very good ratings, although it falls short of the top of the year on Metacritic. Despite its positive reception, players have pointed out some negative details.
Is It Unfair? Player Compares Starfield to Cyberpunk 2077 and Sparks Controversy
This time, a user known as The Doctor, who is a Bethesda hater, uploaded a video comparing Starfield to Cyberpunk 2077, the controversial and successful sci-fi RPG. It seems that the intention of the footage is to emphasize that the Xbox exclusive has fewer details.
The video shows that Cyberpunk 2077 has better water and explosion effects than Bethesda's game. It also highlights that the open-world NPCs in the CDPR title react to the player's actions, unlike what happens in the space-themed video game.

However, the community quickly remembered that CD Projekt RED's game debuted in a terrible state in 2020 and required numerous patches to improve the situation. So, it's curious that it's now being used as a reference. Therefore, internet users believe that the comparison is unfair and misplaced.
This controversy reached the ears of Patrick K. Mills, Senior Quest Designer for Cyberpunk 2077. Although he joked that now CDPR's RPG is being used as a reference, he believes that these comparisons and criticisms are harmful to the gaming industry.
"How times have changed. By the way, this fake critique is actively harmful to how audiences interact with the medium, and I hate it, but it's very funny to see how many of these were made to ridicule CP2077," the creative highlighted. In response to a fan, he affirmed that these comparisons are useless.
Indeed, videos like these were very popular in 2020 with the controversial debut of CD Projekt RED's RPG. In particular, many players compared this game to open-world experiences like Grand Theft Auto V.
