Embracer Group is going through some of its worst times and has been forced to close studios such as Volition. Apparently, the company will also have to sell some of its most outstanding teams in order to survive.
According to recent reports, Embracer Group could put Gearbox Entertainment, the studio known for Borderlands, up for sale. The source claims that there are several companies interested in the acquisition, so negotiations are already underway.
Embracer Group could sell Gearbox to the highest bidder
According to a report from Reuters, Embracer Group is currently analyzing several options for Gearbox's future. Among them is the possibility of selling the studio to the highest bidder. This as part of its restructuring process to adjust its finances after losing a multi-million dollar deal.
The report claims that Embracer is already working with Goldman Sachs and Aream & Co, an investment firm, to start negotiations with companies interested in the Borderlands developer. For now, it is not known which companies might take advantage of the situation to acquire Gearbox Entertainment.
Now, people familiar with the matter assured that nothing is certain, as in the end no deal may be reached. So, the future of Gearbox Entertainment is uncertain for now and it is not known what will happen to its members if the sale does not materialize.
Embracer Group has not commented on the matter and declined to speak on the subject when asked about the negotiations. That said, we will have to be patient and wait to find out how this story concludes.
