Marvel's Spider-Man 2 promises to make the most of PlayStation 5's hardware with incredible graphics, but how will it perform? Insomniac Games has already revealed details about its different technical modes, making it clear that the game will be able to run at 30, 40, or 60 frames per second.
It was through the platform formerly known as Twitter that James Stevenson, the head of the Insomniac Games community, revealed details about the performance of Marvel's Spider-Man 2. According to him, the game will have options to run at 30, 40, or 60 frames per second.
Perhaps this is not very surprising since we've already seen several games offer the option to choose the frame rate that suits you best. What is surprising is that all of these modes will support ray tracing.
"There is no mode in this game that has ray tracing turned off, there's no need for it," said Mike Fitzgerald, technical director at Insomniac Games to IGN. "We've figured out how to deliver what we believe is the right image and visual effects for Spider-Man, and we want to make sure all players see it."
Now, Insomniac Games has not revealed details about the resolution in the different modes of Marvel's Spider-Man 2. We assume that the Fidelity Mode will run at 30 frames per second with native 4K resolution. There will likely be some compromises in the 40 and 60 frames per second modes, but that information is still a mystery.
We will keep an eye out and inform you when we know more about the modes of Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
A 40 fps mode for Marvel’s Spider-Man? Why?
Now, why did Insomniac Games develop a 40 fps mode for Marvel's Spider-Man 2? What's interesting about it?
What the 40 fps mode brings to Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and other games is the possibility of having a frame rate higher than 30 fps but without all the sacrifices that need to be made to achieve 60 fps. In other words, it's one of the most balanced modes for those who enjoy a frame rate higher than 30 fps but prefer to have the best possible visual quality.
It's important to note that to take advantage of this mode, you need a TV with support for dynamic frame rates and a 120Hz panel. Therefore, not everyone will be able to make use of it.
