The breakup between Electronic Arts and FIFA still had one last controversy before the start of the new era marked by EA Sports FC 24, the renewed soccer IP resulting from this separation. A few days before its launch, reports indicate that previous installments of what was once one of the most successful gaming franchises can no longer be purchased on digital platforms.
It's over! Previous FIFA installments are no longer available for digital purchase
EA Sports FC 24 will debut on September 29, marking the end of the FIFA franchise's history. However, it was thought that the past would simply be left behind, but reports have pointed out that previous installments of the IP, from FIFA 14 to FIFA 23, are no longer available for purchase in digital format on various platforms. This means that the only way to play them is if you already have a previous copy linked to your user account, just as it happens when a digital title is removed from a platform for various reasons.
Considering that FIFA 23 remains one of the best-selling games of the year, it is expected that its digital availability will come to an abrupt end once the EA Sports FC 24 cycle begins because, from that moment on, EA and FIFA will have nothing to do with each other.
Checking the availability of FIFA 23 and previous installments on the Xbox store, it is confirmed that, at the time of writing this note, the games no longer show a price for the purchase option. Instead, there is a message about cloud gaming and downloading, which seems to be related to their presence in EA Play, where they still are part of the library, remembering that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate also provides access to the basic Electronic Arts service.
