The end of Wii U and 3DS has been sad because Nintendo has gradually stripped them of their online functions, and now, the last remaining aspect, their servers, has a closing date. However, some fans of the Japanese company's consoles are determined not to let them die and have taken matters into their own hands to find a solution for the community.
Enthusiasts are already preparing options for the closure of Wii U and 3DS servers
According to the Pretendo Network enthusiasts group, they are already working to provide an alternative in terms of servers once Nintendo shuts down the servers for Wii U and 3DS in April 2024, marking the end of their online support for all network-related activities. In this regard, Pretendo announced that they are aware of the closure of the official servers, and their goal is to adapt their open-source work for when that happens to provide Wii U and 3DS users with a public access server to keep both consoles alive.
We have been made aware of Nintendo's plans to shut down Nintendo Network in April. We have begun discussing our development road map internally to accommodate this https://t.co/0M6tERW6lV

Pretendo Network works with reverse engineering processes and will do the same in this case to recreate the Nintendo Network and keep the consoles connected for their community.
It is worth noting that the server shutdown for Wii U and 3DS only affects the online functions of both consoles, including data exchange, leaderboards, and online gaming. Additionally, this will not impact purchases made on the eShop before the store ceased its purchase and credit transaction functions because, according to Nintendo, players will be able to download the games and content they already have linked to their accounts, although it is uncertain how long this option will be available. Ultimately, it's the digital era, and consumers are somewhat constrained.
