Exciting news regarding Stardew Valley, the popular farming title, as a petition has just been opened demanding that its developer include more inclusive pronouns in an upcoming update for the indie game.
As you probably know, Stardew Valley is available on consoles and PC and has become an interesting choice for gamers who appreciate the unique style of its developer, Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone.
Now, because it's never enough, the community is urging the creative mind behind it to add more pronouns to aid the inclusion of transgender and other non-binary individuals.
This initiative led a section of the community to start a petition on Change.org to get ConcernedApe to listen. It's worth mentioning that the goal is to reach 2,500 signatures, and as of the writing of this note, 2,353 have been collected.
"Seven years ago, Stardew Valley changed everything for indie games. This farming simulation game created by Eric Barone, also known as ConcernedApe, is considered one of the best. It has accumulated a large fan base and has sold more than 20 million copies. However, there is a significant issue with the game. When you start a new farm, you are tasked with creating a character, but there are only 2 gender options to choose from. This excludes non-binary players from feeling represented in their game," states part of the description in the petition.
It's worth noting that ConcernedApe has not commented on this matter, and we will have to wait to see if the developer heeds this petition, which has received both support and criticism.
What Will the New Stardew Valley Patch Include?
The farming simulator is gearing up to receive its long-awaited 1.6 update, which will include a grand festival, 2 minifestivals, new endgame content expanding each skill area, items and crafting recipes, over 100 new lines of dialogue, winter clothing, new types of rewards, and more, all on a yet-to-be-announced date.
Here's a glimpse:
Remember that Stardew Valley is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC through Steam, and mobile platforms.
