One of the most talked-about games in 2023 was undoubtedly Starfield, Bethesda's new RPG. Although it was a success upon its debut and generally met the community's expectations, it seems to slowly fade away while a game from over 10 years ago maintains its firm position.
Certainly, the role-playing video game was a huge hit on Steam, even before its official release. During the early access period, it surpassed 200,000 simultaneous players on Valve's platform. After the launch, it reached a historic peak of 330,723 concurrent users.
However, it gradually starts to lose players, which is natural considering it's a single-player experience. That said, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the acclaimed fantasy RPG that debuted in 2011, is more popular than Bethesda's latest project.
THE ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM surpassed STARFIELD ON STEAM
At the moment, Starfield has 16,263 simultaneous players on the Valve platform. On the other hand, the Special Edition of TES V: Skyrim has 18,205 concurrent users, along with an additional 2123 people enjoying the original version of the 2011 video game.
Taking into account the figures of both versions, we find that the latest installment of The Elder Scrolls had a combined peak of 26,793 connected users in the last 24 hours, surpassing the 26,705 simultaneous players achieved by Starfield in the same period.
However, it is important to qualify this information. The space-themed RPG that debuted in September is also available on Xbox Game Pass. Since the number of people playing the title through Microsoft's service is unknown, the Steam figures are just a part of the picture.
On the other hand, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has an enormous modding community around it, which has allowed it to remain relevant for so many years.
Regardless, Starfield will be a project that receives support for a long time. In an interview, director Todd Howard revealed that they initially plan to support the game for a minimum of 5 years.
