Cyberpunk 2077 presents one of the most incredibles redemption stories of recent years. After its problematic launch in 2020, it faced many criticisms and tarnished CD Projekt RED's prestige. Fortunately, it managed to right the ship and is now in a good position. That's why it has surpassed its own record at The Game Awards 2023.
This week, Geoff Keighley revealed the list of all the nominees that will be part of the upcoming edition of the awards ceremony. It's worth noting that CD Projekt RED's futuristic RPG is a candidate in several categories.
Cyberpunk 2077 resurfaces, and its presence at The Game Awards 2023 prove it
Despite all the controversy surrounding it, the role-playing video game managed to sneak into The Game Awards 2021; however, it only received 2 nominations: Best RPG and Best Score and Music. It's worth remembering that it lost to Tales of Arise and NieR Replicant ver 1.22474487139, respectively.
Now, a couple of years later, CDPR's RPG emerged from the ashes and managed to double that figure, thanks in large part to its first and final expansion.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty received 4 nominations at The Game Awards 2023: Best Narrative, Best Performance, Best Game as a Service, and Best Community Support. Undoubtedly, an achievement that demonstrates the effort put in by the developers in their mission to rescue the title after its release in 2020.
This situation isn't surprising. The role-playing video game saw a significant boost after the release of the 2.0 update, which paved the way for the excellent Phantom Liberty expansion. In fact, the DLC received better ratings than the original game.
CD Projekt RED has multiple projects in the works. Following the end of Cyberpunk 2077's development, a sequel is already in the plans. Meanwhile, a significant portion of efforts is directed toward the new installment of The Witcher.
