The Game Awards 2023 could be the most controversial edition of the popular awards ceremony. It will be a night full of emotions due to the announcements and the list of winners, but the community fears that the most serious incident from last year might be repeated. Fortunately, Geoff Keighley and his team are aware of the dangers and will take measures accordingly.
In 2022, Hidetaka Miyazaki and other creatives from FromSoftware took the stage to receive the Game of the Year (GOTY) award for their work on ELDEN RING; however, that celebratory moment became the talk of the town because a mysterious individual crashed the stage and nominated Bill Clinton. Although the incident will go down in history as a funny scene, it raised serious concerns about the safety of attendees.
A similar situation occurred at the Opening Night Live of gamescom 2023, where another individual invaded the stage, interrupted Geoff Keighley's speech, and ]asked about Grand Theft Auto VI. Once again, that case, although harmless, generated a lot of discussion and raised alarms.

Fortunately, the host and organizer of the most popular awards ceremony in the video game industry want to prevent another incident of that nature from occurring in the edition on December 7.
During a live stream on Twitch, Geoff Keighley addressed fan concerns and assured that they do have plans to enhance the event's security.
"Yes, we will. We don't want to talk about these things publicly, simply because it's a security issue. Ultimately, we have plans and try to do everything we can to keep me safe, but also everyone watching the show, the audience, the people participating in the program, and everyone. Undoubtedly, it's something we think about," commented the organizer.
Geoff Keighley emphasizes that security is very important and a priority because he remembers that the goal of The Game Awards 2023 is to create a great show celebrating video games. "So that's also something important to keep in mind. But yes, I appreciate the concern about that," he highlighted.
