Naughty Dog announced this week the cancellation of The Last of Us Online, the franchise's multiplayer project that had been in development for some time. The project was never revealed as such, so its proposal and appearance are a mystery. For this reason, a recent leak caught the attention of many gamers, as it gives us a glimpse of the title that will never see the light.
Leaker shows image of The Last of Us Online after its cancellation
Naughty Dog decided to cancel the project and distance itself from games as a service to focus on what it knows how to do: single-player titles that bet on narrative. Despite this, the end of the multiplayer project is undoubtedly disappointing news for some fans of the franchise.
Mainly since we never had the chance to see The Last of Us Online in action. The studio only presented concept arts that didn't give us an idea of what the title was going to offer at launch.
Due to this and the cancellation of the project, insider Dusk Golem decided to publish a screenshot of the title. It shows the main menu of the game that, supposedly, was going to be very similar to what the final product was going to have.
In the image it is revealed that The Last of Us Online was going to work through a system of seasons with Battle Passes. Also, it is inferred that the title was going to offer several game modes on its release and a store with cosmetic content.
The leaker assured that the screenshot is not recent, but he believes that the final menu would be very similar. On the other hand, he explained that he decided to release the image only because of the cancellation of the project, otherwise he would have never shared it. You can see it below:
