When we think of cinema, the first thing that comes to mind is Hollywood; however, in the rest of the world, films of very high quality are produced. One such production that made positive headlines is Godzilla Minus One, which has already broken a significant box office record.
For those unfamiliar, Godzilla Minus One is a Japanese film directed by Takashi Yamazaki and produced by Toho Studios. It debuted this fall in its home country and achieved very good financial results, recently starting its screening in the United States.
Godzilla Minus One surpasses Dragon Ball Super
This production, once again putting the Kaiju at the center of the story, is currently in its third week in the American box office. It still maintains a good pace and has just surpassed a record that belonged to Dragon Ball Super.
Specifically, Godzilla Minus One grossed $1.3 billion during its last weekend in US cinemas. This means that its box office in that territory amounts to $34 million, approximately. It has already exceeded $57 million in total revenue, according to the latest reports.
In this way, the giant monster movie dethroned Dragon Ball Super: Broly and is now the 6th most successful Japanese film in the United States. These good results are not surprising. Following the initial success, the film was screened in 2600 additional theaters across the country.
To contextualize, the animated film from Toei Animation grossed $115.7 million worldwide during its theatrical run. Can the Japanese Kaiju film surpass that figure?
Undoubtedly, the positive box office reception is due to favorable reviews. The film starring Minami Hamabe, Ryūnosuke Kamiki, and Hidetaka Yoshioka holds an approval rating of 90% on the Tomatometer on Tomatazos. Critics praised the visual effects and the overall development of the plot.
Now, when does Godzilla Minus One arrive in Mexico? Fans in our country can enjoy it starting December 28th at Cinépolis.
But tell us, what do you think of this new record? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments.
