"I warned you", U.S. senator asks FTC to undo Activision buyout after layoffs

Elizabeth Warren lashes out at Microsoft and reiterates her disagreement with the acquisition

Elizabeth Warren, a U.S. senator, was very vocal and opposed the Activision Blizzard acquisition by Microsoft at all times. Now, she launched a criticism of the tech giant as she regrets the recent spate of layoffs at the studio.

Because of this, the senator made a call to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the agency that was aware of the acquisition process. To be exact, she asked it to continue working to try to undo the merger.

Senator calls on FTC to act on Activision Blizzard layoffs

Via social media, Warren gave her opinion on the recent wave of layoffs at Activision Blizzard. We know that talented studios, including Call of Duty, lost talented developers and more staff in different areas.

In total, Microsoft laid off 1,900 employees from its entire gaming division. The senator is not at all happy with the news, as she was one of the opponents of the acquisition. In her message she reiterated that she warned that the deal would hurt workers.

Likewise, she assured that any corporate merger will impact employees, so she never agreed with Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard. Due to the recent developments, Warren called on the FTC to undo the merger between companies.

"Just 3 months after Microsoft's merger with Activision, 1900 workers have lost their jobs. I warned that this deal would hurt workers. These layoffs are a stark reminder that corporate mergers are bad for workers. The FTC should keep up the fight to unwind this merger," Warren wrote.
