While Persona fans are happy about the Persona 3 Reload remake, they are not entirely satisfied because they feel it's not the definitive version of the title. Sources indicate that indeed, the development of Persona 3 Reload will not end with the game's release, but will the DLC include the protagonist as a playable character?
Without delving into plot details, you should know that when Persona 3 debuted on PlayStation 2, it did not feature Kotone Shiomi, formerly known simply as "the protagonist," but she was added as part of the additions in the Persona 3 Portable version.
Fans hoped that the character would not only appear as a non-playable character in Persona 3 Reload but that they could control her as in the PlayStation Portable title. However, ATLUS decided otherwise. Could this change with possible DLC?
Will Persona 3 Reload have a definitive version or DLC?
Well, just a few hours before Persona 3 Reload is released, sources have just addressed the possibility that ATLUS is developing downloadable content for the game.
The renowned leaker MbKKssTBhz5 on Twitter (X) claimed that indeed, the Japanese studio is planning DLC that will arrive at some point in the "fiscal year" (without specifying which) that the remake will receive. It was hinted that the DLC will include The Answer, an expansion with content that takes place after the events of the first game and, as such, was later released through an additional disc, the Persona 3 FES edition.
To make matters more interesting, this source mentioned that multiple DLC plans are in the works, although it wasn't specified if it involves entirely new story content or minor additions like outfits or cosmetic items.
However, the previously known I'am a Hero Too, another recognized leaker, confirmed that the information is accurate but hinted that there are no plans to add the protagonist Kotone Shiomi, who unfortunately is not playable in the remake, though he mentioned that "things can change."
On the other hand, it was made clear that there won't be a ton of DLC, and it's not very relevant, possibly leaning more towards cosmetic content packs like those released by ATLUS for Persona 5 and other previous installments.
Of course, SEGA has not commented on this matter yet, so we encourage you to treat this information as unofficial. ATLUS already mentioned in an interview with Gamerwk (via Persona Central) that they have no intention of releasing a definitive version as they did with Persona 5 Royal, but they didn't mention anything about DLC.
We will keep you informed.
