Helldivers 2 had an unprecedented success on PlayStation 5 and PC, so surely Sony is surprised and more than satisfied with the results. For such reason, some gamers believe that the company will pull out its wallet to buy Arrowhead Game Studios.
The idea is not far-fetched, as Sony has invested in studios in the past that have given it the expected results, and is currently still in the expansion phase. Johan Pilestedt, executive manager of the studio, is aware of the rumors and reports, so he clarified the situation.
Arrrowhead responds to rumors about possible purchase by Sony
Sony and Arrrowhead have collaborated to make the 2 installments of Helldivers, which have been a resounding success. Because of this, many believe that the Japanese company will not hesitate to acquire the talented Swedish studio.
In fact, some PlayStation fans want this to happen and have shared images where they welcome Arrrowhead to PlayStation Studios. Some of them claim that it would be a bad time to announce the purchase, as Sony recently laid off 900 employees from its gaming division.
Other people were surprised by such postings, as for some reason they thought Arrrowhead was already part of PlayStation. Pilestedt knows about this confusion, so in the past he has clarified that they are an independent studio.
Faced with rumors of a possible acquisition, the executive was also clear and affirmed that everything is false. Through his social networks, he assured that they will continue to be independent and that they will not be acquired by Sony.
"This is the first I hear of this. And that's a good indication that it's fake. Also, very old logo (...) We are not owned. We are independently owned!” Then: “I mean... We are owned, but only by the founders (including me) of the studio,” Pilestedt stated in several messages.
While for many Arrrowhead fits in PlayStation Studios, the reality is that for now they will stay away from a possible acquisition. Sony surely has interest in the studio, especially for betting on games as a service.
